Crystal is straight. She went to an exclusive lesbian bar, the Ballyhoo Club, to cheer up her gay best friend after bad breakup. There Crystal meets Riley, a spunky and charismatic girl who mocks her about straight girl dating skills. The two bet each other that they could take the other on a better date, the loser has to humiliate themselves at Ballyhoo. In a battle of escalating seduction the girls take each other on a series of dates where the lines between the game and the heart are blurred. This is the third book in the "Music of the Soul" series, all books are stand alone novels.

Dating Game (Audible Audio Edition) Erik Schubach Pamela Lorence Books

Crystal and Riley (aka Jane) meet at a lesbian bar and begin their relationship on a bet. The winner is the lady who takes the other on the best date. This opens up humor galore that will have you laughing out loud, especially interactions with Bev. I had some character judgment going on. I was more compassionate in my opinion of Crystal due to her being a “straight” girl and there is always confusion and avoidance in these types of romances. I tried to connect with Riley and I could, but she wasn’t my favorite in the MOTS series. Riley is less understanding, compassionate, and patient then I would have liked. She isn’t all bad and does have redeeming qualities, but my opinion of the character was already lower than the other characters in the series.

I’m a huge fan of this type of romance and Erik Schubach’s MOTS series. That old adage, never fall for a straight woman, is my kryptonite for literature. That being said this book was funny and sweet, but not the caliber I was expecting from this author. It is a novel I would recommend due to it being humorous and part of a fantastic series; although, it will never be one of my favorites. In no way, shape, or form will it keep me from continuing to one-click purchase Erik’s work. He is an incredibly talented author. This one just didn’t work as well for me.

Dating Game (Audible Audio Edition) Erik Schubach Pamela Lorence Books Reviews

All of erik S books are awesome detailed. The one complaint of his books is no sex scenes it's like he gets you there and then bang like a blackout and it's next scene. Kind if disappointing because I know sex scenes can be written tactfully and romantically, Gerri hill and Radcliffe do it all the time
Crystal, a straight girl, and Riley, a lesbian, enter into a bet as to who can throw the best date. Let the games begin! This is a very sweet and loveable read. You can fall in love with both of these main characters and want to become friends. This author knows how to tell and write a picture with her words. I look forward to the next novel.
I'm still amazed at the fact this series is written by a man. Not that men can't be sweet and romantic, but a man writing lesbian romance who has such a good attitude on the subject is a slightly rare find. I guess he is in good company with Geonn Cannon. I have read this entire 3 book series (thus far) this week and although IMO this one didn't have quite as much depth as the first one, Music of the Soul, it was on par with it in the sweet, romantic and light read category. I adore the characters in these books as they are people you wouldn't mind knowing in real life. I'm seeing a pattern in his characters as similar personality traits carry from book to book, but they are all just different enough to entertain without becoming redundant, from sweet, caring lead characters with good hearts and souls to their quirky best friends. I also enjoyed the second book in this series, A Deafening Whisper, but anyone paying attention will notice its the only one so far I haven't left feedback for. That's not because it wasn't a good story, but I was torn as to how to rate it. While it was good and had the same endearing characters, I don't read to invoke sadness and that story was a clusterf...of such.

I enjoy reading late at night into the wee hours of morning when it's quiet and peaceful in my world so their are no interruptions and I can take my time absorbing the story with its every detail. I often rate a book by not only how enjoyable the story was and how well-written it was, but also by how the characters stick with me at the end, and hopefully into the following days. By reading late at night I can always tell when I'm really into the characters & story because I often find myself dreaming about them and writing out their continuing stories in my sleep or thinking about them when I first awake. While I doubt I will be thinking about them deep into coming weeks, they did star in my dreams that night after reading the first and third books. I'm pretty sure my brain shut down after the second book. As much as I loved the characters, my mind needed a recharge after that emotional roller coaster so there was no dreaming that night.

Also, I noticed each story seems to have a few less editing mistakes. I'll look forward to the next one Erik and I know it's not logical for you to continue cranking them out as fast as you have been so far, I must say its been nice not waiting for a year or more in between books.

I do have to ask about the fascination with lip gloss and how the lips of your protagonists in one way or another are often mentioned as sticking together or similar in your works. LOL, just a continuing observation. Have you kissed a lot of girls while you were wearing lip gloss or do you have lesbian friends feeding this info to you? Just kidding, don't answer that. I guess I'm a little too butch for gloss so I can neither confirm nor deny this claim, but had to laugh at the number of mentions it garnered throughout the series.
I'm giving this book 3 stars. It's not really bad, just okay. The other books I've read in the series, Music of the Soul and A Deafening Whisper, were better. They had better plots, and I felt were much more creative. I thought that this one was fun, but a bit predictable, especially at the end.

But I'm still impressed with Erik Schubach as an author of lesbian romance. Note not erotica, but fun romance. Given his track record, I'm still going to read the next one, Karaoke Queen.
This story hit home and is quite a ride for anyone who loves a good bet and has connections. Dating Game is full of laughs and times you want to yell at the characters for being ridiculous when everyone can tell two people truly belong with each other. Crystal and Riley turn out to be perfect for each other and are so relate-able that it's hard to believe they don't live just next door. The best part about this book is the dates the two go on and the love that is discovered. It couldn't have been written better and with the love, loss and excitement, all those things make the ending that much sweeter.
oh my word I don't know why i have not reviewed this yet. i really thought i already did. but oh well. let's begin shall we? I love this book so much I found the characters intriguing and hilarious especially when they try to deny their attraction to eachother whilst trying to out-date eachother. I've re-read this twice and now that i finally left a review I'm going to be re-reading again. an old book this one but a memorable one at that. you won't regret reading this adventure of Crystal and Jane (psst her name is... nah i'll leave you to read it)
